Maiden Lane Community Centre

Maiden Lane Community Centre Description

Maiden Lane Community Centre (MLCC), established in 1983, sits at the heart of the vibrant Maiden Lane Estate, supporting over 700 families in one of the 10% most deprived areas in England. We are a community-driven organisation, dedicated to creating positive change and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone we serve. Our diverse range of services and projects caters to all ages and interests, helping us secure outcomes that span the entire life course, from children to older adults, and respond directly to the needs of our residents.

Our team, led by Director Nazrul Islam, is deeply rooted in the community, with over 100 years of combined experience at MLCC and a wealth of expertise across Camden. Reflecting the very community we serve, 42% of our current staff began their journey with us as beneficiaries of the charity. This not only underscores our commitment to empowering local people but also demonstrates how we support and develop our own community members into leaders.

One of our most significant recent achievements is the short film Tin Luck, co-produced by MLCC. This project highlights the strength and creativity of our community, with local residents and young people-many of whom are involved in our youth services-playing key roles both in front of and behind the camera. Tin Luck is a celebration of the Maiden Lane spirit, where people from all walks of life come together to create something truly special.
Directed by Beatrix Blaise, Tin Luck has been embraced as a symbol of community pride. It was nominated for Best UK Short Film at the BFI Raindance Film Festival 2020 and was an Official Selection at the Athens International Film Festival, New York Nordic International Film Festival, and Berlin 2021 Film Festival. This success exemplifies our belief in the power of community-driven creativity and collaboration
