Swansea’s new Beignet Kitchen teams up with Flynn’s Deli for one-off pop-up

Swansea food fans will get an early taste of a new market trader this weekend, as The Beignet Kitchen joins forces with Uplands favourite Flynn’s Delicatessen. The New Orleans-inspired business will serve freshly made beignets at a limited-time outdoor pop-up ahead of its planned Swansea Market opening later this year.

Key takeaways

  • The Beignet Kitchen will appear at Flynn’s Delicatessen on Saturday, 15 August.
  • Fresh New Orleans-style beignets will be served from midday until they sell out.
  • Customers will be able to try the pastries with a selection of dips.
  • The pop-up will take place outside Flynn’s Deli on Walter Road, Uplands.
  • The collaboration offers an advance taste of the new Swansea Market business.

A taste of New Orleans in Swansea

The Beignet Kitchen is the creation of Swansea-based founder Daf Turner, who plans to bring the popular New Orleans treat to Swansea Market later this year.

Beignets are square or rectangular pieces of yeast dough that are deep-fried and traditionally served hot beneath a generous coating of powdered sugar. Turner describes his version as lighter and airier than a typical doughnut, making them well suited to sharing or enjoying alongside a coffee.

A special collaboration with Flynn’s Deli

For the one-off event, Turner is partnering with Chris Flynn, owner of Flynn’s Delicatessen in Uplands. The pop-up is intended to give local customers an early opportunity to sample the food before The Beignet Kitchen’s permanent market launch.

The pastries will be prepared fresh for the event, with dips also available for visitors who want to try a different take on the traditional sweet treat. Flynn has praised the accompanying dips and described beignets as an ideal coffee pairing.

When and where to find the pop-up

The event will be held outside Flynn’s Delicatessen at 27 Walter Road on Saturday, 15 August. Service is due to begin at 12pm and will continue until the beignets sell out.

The limited availability means customers hoping to try the new business before its market opening may want to arrive early. The collaboration also highlights the growing links between Swansea’s independent food businesses, with an established local deli helping introduce a new venture to the community.

Looking ahead to Swansea Market

The pop-up will serve as a preview of what customers can expect when The Beignet Kitchen opens at Swansea Market later in the year. Turner’s New Orleans-inspired menu is set to bring a distinctive addition to the city’s independent food scene, while the event provides a chance to build interest ahead of the full launch.
