A new candle-making business has opened in St Helens town centre, combining handmade candle sales with workshops and private events. Maison de Lumiere, on Ormskirk Street, was launched by Mihaela Luca, a mum-of-two who also works as a registered nurse.
Luca began making candles around a year before opening the shop, inspired by a cousin in Romania. She found the Ormskirk Street premises through an online advert and felt it suited her plans, offering enough space for workshops and group activities alongside retail.
The shop’s range includes floral candle arrangements and hand-painted candles designed to resemble customers’ pets, aimed at shoppers looking for personalised gifts and keepsakes. Alongside retail, Maison de Lumiere runs candle-making workshops, which Luca says she finds calming and believes can support wellbeing. The venue also hosts private celebrations, including birthday parties and hen dos, giving groups an alternative to a conventional night out.
