Marine & Industrial Transmissions (MIT) has become the fifth company to move into Walbrook Business Park in Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey, securing 40 jobs as part of an £18 million development. MIT, which has supplied technical support and spare parts for marine and industrial power transmission systems on the island for more than 50 years, is relocating to a new 2,000 sq m unit.
Managing director John Logue said: “We are delighted to announce our move which secures the employment of our current workforce here on the Island and allows us to focus on expanding the business.”
Walbrook Business Park, led by Tom Allsworth, founder of Medichem, has so far seen £12 million invested and is planned to eventually offer 30 units of between 1,000 and 32,000 sq ft. Its first two phases have completed 11 units across six buildings, with four more under construction. Other tenants include catalogue retailer Easylife, Sittingbourne-based automotive paint specialist ProXL, furniture retailer Howdens, IES Electrical Wholesale, and Screwfix, the most recent arrival.
Allsworth said trade at the park was exceeding expectations: “Indications from both Screwfix and Howdens are that trade is above forecast, which proves that the Island is a great place for these types of trade companies to do business,” as first reported by Kent Online.
