Family-run haulage firm Roger Petch Transport Limited has entered liquidation after around 15 years in business, with liquidators Michael Jenkins and David Adam Broadbent of BTG Begbies Traynor appointed to wind the company up voluntarily on 9 April. The firm had already ceased trading on 15 March; the winding-up notice was published in the London Gazette on 16 April.

Companies House records show the company was incorporated in August 2010, though the firm’s own site traced its roots back to 2006, when it started out as a one-vehicle owner-driver operation before building up its fleet to meet growing customer demand. It had recently relocated its registered office to York, having operated from Sykehouse and Great Heck in East Yorkshire. Google now lists the company as “permanently closed”.

Roger Petch Transport specialised in bulk tipper transport, hauling materials including sand, stone, gypsum, plastic pellets, ash, coal and biomass under an operating licence covering 25 trucks and 30 trailers, alongside other haulage work using low loaders and a 45ft Tautliner. Its fleet included an 8-wheeled bulk tipper capable of carrying up to 20 tonnes. Despite the closure, the firm had built a reputation for a “first-class service”, with customers describing it as a “friendly family-run business” where they felt “treated very well”.

According to its liquidator, the collapse was driven by rising fuel costs and the loss of contracts, and resulted in more than 20 redundancies. The closure follows difficulties elsewhere in the UK haulage sector: Nottingham-based Martyn Barratt Transport Limited, a warehousing and distribution firm with more than 25 years of experience and a fleet of over 60 vehicles, also entered administration in April, Birmingham Live reported.
