Slade & Cooper is a firm of chartered certified accountants and registered auditors based in Beehive Mill on Jersey Street in Ancoats, and it works almost entirely with the third sector: registered charities, co-operatives, community interest companies, social enterprises and registered social housing providers. The practice grew from work Janet Slade began in 1985 supporting Manchester co-operatives, became a partnership with Sue Cooper in 1994 and was incorporated in 2006, and it is now led by a new generation of principals.

Audit and assurance is a large part of the work, from statutory external audits and internal audits to grant audits, independent examinations of smaller charities and audit exemption reports for co-operatives. The team prepares annual accounts for charities, co-operatives, companies, LLPs, partnerships and the self-employed, and handles corporation tax, self-assessment, VAT and gift aid.

Organisations without a finance team can hand over bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll, or get advice on choosing an accounting package. A first half-hour consultation is free, and the office is open on weekday mornings and afternoons.
