Croydon Crematorium Crematoria in Croydon, London

About
Croydon Crematorium is the borough's council-run crematorium, set in landscaped grounds off Mitcham Road and reached through the Mitcham Road entrance. It has two chapels with quite different characters. The east chapel is modern, with upholstered linked seating for around 130 people and curtains that can be drawn fully or partly at the committal.
The west chapel is traditional, with a vaulted ceiling and wooden pews for about 80, and a catafalque that descends at the committal unless the family prefers the coffin to stay in view. Services run at 45-minute intervals, and a longer slot can be booked for an extended service or a large congregation. Both chapels have organs and can play recorded music, although families arrange their own organist.
After the service, ashes can be scattered in the gardens of remembrance or buried in a cremation plot in one of Croydon's cemeteries, and memorials can be placed in the hall or gardens. The grounds open at 9am daily, closing at 5pm from October to March and at 7pm from April to September.
