The Northern Lawn Tennis Club Sports in Didsbury, Manchester

About
The Northern is a racquets and fitness club on Palatine Road in West Didsbury, and one of the oldest lawn tennis clubs anywhere. It grew out of the Northern Lawn Tennis Association, set up in 1879 to stage a tournament to rival the new Wimbledon, and its clubhouse was taken down in Old Trafford and rebuilt here in 1909.
Squash followed in 1936, and over the decades its international tournament drew players such as Ken Rosewall, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg and Pete Sampras. Today the grounds hold 21 tennis courts, three of them indoor, alongside six squash courts and two undercover padel courts, with coaching, teams and social play for all ages and abilities.
Members also have two gyms, a fitness studio with classes and personal trainers, and a lounge bar and eatery overlooking the grass courts, while the Lawn Room, bar and meeting room can be hired for private and corporate events. Courts can be booked online, through the club's app or by calling reception, and memberships, including discounted under-25 and under-30 options, are available.
The club opens from 6.30am on weekdays and 8am at weekends, closing at 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8pm on Sundays.
