Liquid Jade is an independent tea house on the ground floor of Custom House Buildings on Whitefriargate, in Hull's Old Town. Tea is the heart of the place: dozens of loose leaf teas, from Japanese sencha and jasmine green to oolong, breakfast blends and fruit and herbal infusions, are brewed to order and brought to the table in glass pots so you can watch them steep.
The tea comes from UK suppliers who buy through members of the Ethical Tea Partnership. Coffee is taken just as seriously, made with a two-bean Guatemalan and Brazilian blend from a Yorkshire roaster and served as lattes, cappuccinos, mochas and flat whites. The kitchen serves breakfast dishes until eleven, such as poached eggs with avocado on toast and porridge with strawberries, almonds and honey, followed by fresh salads and a counter of cakes.
Loose leaf tea, teapots and infusers are also sold to take home. Liquid Jade opens from ten until three, Monday to Saturday.
