A new store for St Andrews Park
This Wickes opened at St Andrews Park on 20 May 2024, bringing around 30 jobs to the retail park. The 20,360 sq ft store was officially opened by the Mayor of Durham, Councillor Lesley Mavin, alongside players from Durham County Cricket Club, and includes a kitchen and bathroom showroom with room sets for a range of budgets and free design consultations.
Over 50 years on the UK high street
Wickes traces back to 1972, when the US lumberyard chain Wickes Companies teamed up with British builders' merchant Sankey's to open the first UK store. Travis Perkins bought the business in 2005, and Wickes became an independent public company again in April 2021 when it was demerged and listed on the London Stock Exchange.
