From a Bradford market stall to a national chain
Morrisons traces back to 1899, when William Morrison began selling eggs and butter from a stall in Bradford's Rawson Market. The family business opened its first self-service shop in the city in 1958 and its first proper supermarket, Victoria, in 1961, before going public in 1967 and growing into one of Britain's largest grocers.
One of the only supermarkets that makes its own fresh food
Unlike most UK supermarkets, Morrisons runs its own bakeries, meat and fish processing plants and produce packing sites rather than buying everything in, making it one of the country's largest fresh food manufacturers as well as a retailer. That supply chain is what stocks the fresh counters at stores such as this one.
