Company history

Founded in Newcastle in 1939

Greggs began as a single bakery opened by John Gregg in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1939. His sons Ian and Colin grew the business through the 1960s and 70s into the UK's largest bakery chain, now trading from around 2,500 shops nationwide.
