Rooted in Britain's first co-operative
The Co-op traces its roots to 1844, when 28 Rochdale weavers pooled £28 to open a shop selling butter, sugar and flour they could otherwise not afford, founding the Rochdale Pioneers and the principles the co-operative movement still follows worldwide. This Market Square store carries that model into present-day Luton, with Co-op membership still rewarding regular shoppers as it has for generations.
