Cosgroves Cafes & Coffee Shops in Faversham
About
Cosgroves is a breakfast and lunch café on Preston Street in the centre of Faversham, a short walk from the station and the market square. It sits in a timber-framed building with exposed ceiling beams and wooden floors, and the deeds to the property go back to 1888, when it was bought by a local harness maker, and it has been a place to eat since the early 1970s.
The kitchen cooks breakfasts all morning, from a full English made with Kentish sausage and thick-cut bacon from ethical local butchers to a fully plant-based version with scrambled tofu, plus omelettes, avocado and poached eggs on sourdough and Welsh rarebit made with a house three-cheese sauce. At lunchtime there are homemade soups, a chalkboard of daily specials and puddings, and the counter keeps fruit and cheese scones and cakes for coffee and afternoon tea.
Most dishes can be made gluten-free, the drinks run from espresso coffees and iced frappes to tea, wine and bottled beer, and dogs are welcome inside.

A building with a story
The oldest surviving deed for 14 Preston Street is dated 29 November 1888, recording its purchase by William Henry Kemp, a harness maker, for 550 pounds. The current proprietors bought the building in 1969 for 6,000 pounds, when part of it was occupied by a dressmaker, and it became a restaurant not long after.
