Royal Armouries Museum Museums in Holbeck, Leeds

About
The Royal Armouries Museum is the Leeds home of the UK's national collection of arms and armour, housed in a purpose-built building with a tall glass tower on the waterside at Leeds Dock, a short walk from the city centre. Entry is free, with tickets booked online, and most visitors allow two to three hours. The galleries run from the War Gallery, its largest, through the Tournament Gallery with armour made for Henry VIII, the Asian and African Gallery with its rare armour for a war elephant, and the Self-defence Gallery, while the Hall of Steel tower is lined floor to ceiling with weapons and armour.
Costumed interpreters put on daily shows and live combat demonstrations, and there is a ticketed escape room, changing exhibitions, a cafe and a gift shop, plus a schools service and group visits. In term time the museum opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays; it opens every day during school holidays and on bank holidays. Parking is available nearby.

Opened by the Queen as part of Leeds' waterfront regeneration
The Leeds museum was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in March 1996, built on the South bank of the River Aire as one of the focal points of the regeneration of Leeds' old waterfront and dock area, now known as Leeds Dock.
The national collection, moved on from the Tower of London
The arms and armour on display were brought from the Royal Armouries' traditional home at the Tower of London, where much of the national collection had previously been kept or stored. The Tower of London site remains part of the Royal Armouries today, with its own displays in the White Tower, alongside the Leeds museum and a third site in Fort Nelson, Hampshire.
