Arments is a family-run pie, mash and eel house in Walworth whose story goes back to 1914, when William and Emily Arment bought their first pie shop on Walworth Road. The business has stayed in the family ever since, through two world wars and several moves, settling in 1979 in the larger premises at 7-9 Westmoreland Road, just off Walworth Road.
It is now run day to day by the fourth generation, and the pies, mash and parsley liquor are still made by hand to the family's long-held recipe. Customers can eat in or take away, and eels remain on the menu for those who want the full traditional London experience. For anyone who cannot get to Walworth, Arments sells frozen pies through its online shop for home delivery and through a network of licensed sellers, and it caters for parties and events.
The shop opens Tuesday to Saturday from half past ten, closing at four on weekdays and five on Saturdays, and shuts for a few short family holidays each year, so it is worth checking the website before a long journey.
