About
MAAN Studios is a photographic studio for hire set inside a converted railway arch at Empire Arches in Streatham, between Streatham and Streatham Common stations. The arch once carried coal deliveries to the Victorian water pumping station next door, and trains still run overhead. Inside is a fully equipped studio of around 770 square feet with lighting kit, a wall-mounted paper system and collapsible backgrounds included in the hire, plus a separate kitchen, toilets, a changing area with a shower, a lit make-up mirror and a reception area with a sofa that doubles as a prop.
Photographers book four, eight or twelve hour sessions online, with lower weekday rates, and the space is also used for videos, product launches, talks and small events. For those who want more help there is an in-house photographer, technical assistance with camera settings and lighting, and a retouching service, and the studio runs regular workshops including an introduction to studio lighting on the last Sunday of each month.
It shares the arch with sister business LDN Photography. Visits are by appointment, with long weekday evenings and shorter weekend hours. To find it, head for the black Empire Arches gates beside the pumping station on Conyers Road.
