From a Leeds tailor to the UK's biggest clothing retailer
Next traces back to Joseph Hepworth & Son, a tailoring firm founded in Leeds in 1864. The first Next-branded shops opened in February 1982, and the business moved its head office to Leicestershire in 1986, taking the Next plc name. It has since grown to around 700 stores across the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and overtook Marks & Spencer to become the UK's largest clothing retailer by sales in 2012.
