The ATS Euromaster garage on Haugh Lane in Hexham closed in early May 2026 as part of a UK-wide wind-down of the business, putting three local jobs at risk. The closure went ahead as planned, and the Haugh Lane site is now on the market.
ATS Euromaster had proposed shutting all of its remaining 103 UK centres, citing intense competition, subdued activity and rising costs in the motor services market. The company had already closed 86 unprofitable sites the year before but said it had been unable to find a path back to profitability. The move affected only ATS Euromaster in the UK, not the wider Euromaster Group.
Of the 103 sites, 35 were earmarked for transfer to Formula One Autocentres and 14 to S&M Tyres (Elite Garages), with around 216 employees expected to move across under TUPE regulations – but the Hexham branch was not among them. Thirteen mobile night technicians were expected to transfer instead to sister company Tructyre, which prioritised its vacancies for affected staff to help reduce compulsory redundancies.
Group Managing Director Nick Harley described the announcement as a “difficult moment” for the company and its workforce, with a support package – including an employee assistance programme and outplacement support – developed as part of the consultation process. Separately, Halfords offered interviews to staff affected by the closures and encouraged customers of closing ATS branches to use its nearby workshops; for Hexham drivers, the nearest Halfords is on West Road in Newcastle.
What’s happened to the site since
The Haugh Lane unit is now on the market for £260,000, freehold, marketed by commercial agents Newmark as a light industrial premises. The 3,362 sq ft building has a steel frame with brick walls and perspex roof lights, a minimum clear height of 4.8 metres, secure parking, three large access doors, a mezzanine storage area and a dedicated customer reception and trade counter – the same layout it operated as a tyre and servicing centre. No new occupier has been announced.
