From a Leeds tailor's to a national name

Next traces back to J Hepworth & Son, a tailor founded in Leeds in 1864 that grew into one of Britain's first chain stores. After acquiring the womenswear chain Kendalls in 1981, the company launched its new Next brand, with the first womenswear store opening on 12 February 1982.
