From a Gosforth bike round to the high street
Greggs began life in 1939, when John Gregg took over his family's egg and yeast delivery round in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, making his rounds by pushbike. The first Greggs shop opened on Gosforth High Street in 1951, and the business grew from there into the UK's largest bakery chain, now with thousands of shops including this Balham branch.
