From a Hackney market stall to the high street
Tesco traces back to 1919, when Jack Cohen began selling surplus groceries from a market stall in Hackney, East London, adopting the Tesco name in 1924 and opening his first shop in Edgware in 1931. This Moreton branch carries that convenience-store side of the business today.
