About

Anderson & Sheppard has been making bespoke clothes since 1906 and works from 32 Old Burlington Street, a few steps from Savile Row in Mayfair. The house makes suits, jackets, trousers, waistcoats and overcoats entirely to order, in its own recognisable style built around a natural, soft shoulder. Each new customer is looked after by a coat cutter and a trouser cutter, who take the measurements, draft a paper pattern and then stay with that customer for every future order.

Cloth is chosen in the shop from British and European mills, and the garment is cut and sewn by the in-house tailors and finishers before being refined over two or more fittings. Visitors can call into the front shop to talk through the process, the house style and current lead times. Alterations, repairs and a sponge-and-press service are offered for garments already made, and finished work can be shipped worldwide. The bespoke shop is open on weekdays.

Creators of the English Drape

Anderson & Sheppard is credited with developing the English Drape cut: a softer, more comfortable silhouette that emerged in the early 20th century as an alternative to the rigid, close-fitting military tailoring of the time. The house's own style is still built around this soft, natural shoulder, and the cut it introduced over a century ago is now considered a classic of English tailoring.
