The Golden Hind has been frying fish in Marylebone since 1914, and the restaurant still keeps the cosy, old-fashioned feel of its early days on Marylebone Lane. Cod and haddock fillets are fried in groundnut oil and served with chips, mushy or garden peas and tartare sauce, and the menu goes well beyond the classic plate: plaice, skate wing and rock salmon when it is in season, homemade cod, salmon and vegetable fishcakes, scampi and calamari.

For a lighter meal most of the fish can be steamed with olive oil and oregano instead, and there are salads, including a Greek salad, as well as sides from curry sauce to pickled onions. Lunch and dinner are served Monday to Saturday with a break in the afternoon, and Sunday runs straight through from midday to the early evening.

Tables can be booked, groups are catered for, and food can be ordered for click and collect.
